Penataran Sasih Temple

The location of Pura Penataran Sasih in Bali is easily accessible as the temple is about 6 km away from Gianyar town, on the main road towards north. The temple derived its name from an ancient bronze kettledrum which is now kept in the inner chamber. The kettledrum is about 2 meters in length; and it is locally known as the Moon of Pejeng, as one of the few relics of the Balinese Bronze Age, it is a great archeological find.
This temple is located in the Village Pejeng on the road towards Tampaksiring attractions. This temple is famous for a huge nekara, 186.5 cm tall and 160 cm in diameter. Nekara bronze from the prehistoric (pre hindu) known by the name of the month which means moon Pejeng who fell to earth. Therefore, this temple is called Penataran Sasih, “Sasih” means moon. What’s interesting here is the decoration “in Pejeng” who shaped the face mask pair arranged with a pair of big eyes wide, with long ears and the earrings are made of money kepeng Pejeng sagitiga’Bulan nose is also considered as earrings Kebo Iwo . A number of important statues in the temple there are also. Pura Penataran Sasih in Bali served the purpose of one the most important places of worship during the time of the great Balinese kingdoms. Various temple festivals are held in the 9th Balinese month at the Pura Penataran Sasih in Bali. It is an old temple that is before spreading Hinduism to Bali. Sashi means “Moon” in an Indonesian language. “Moon of Pejeng” who is the god of the moon is supplied. “Moon of Pejeng” is a drum made from copper.
